Counselling is the service sought by individuals in distress or in some degree of confusion, who approach for professional help to discuss and resolve their issues, in a relationship which is more systematic and confidential than friendship. The counselling services are offered in sessions, the number of sessions are decided mutually by the individual and the counsellor in the beginning, on a case to case basis.
Professional counselling is increasingly being used to support and sustain an effective and motivated workforce. Counselling takes care of employees’ mental health and emotional well-being with a resulting increase in personal awareness and self-efficacy. Corporate counselling aims at engaging employees in making healthy lifestyle choices by providing the employees and the organization with the tools, resources, and knowledge to create a health supportive work environment.
It is a process between a counsellor and an individual which helps the individual to gain an understanding about oneself and one’s behaviours and fosters the development of skills to be used in dealing with difficulties associated with personal, academic and social life. The process works on the basis of trust and confidentiality principle.
It is a therapy format that approaches issues of personal growth through the use of interpersonal interaction – to interact with others to identify and understand our maladaptive patterns and how to change them. Group interactions provide an opportunity to build relationships and receive interpersonal feedback about how we experience one another. You can gain specific skills and strategies to meet personal goals, explore areas that present personal challenges, and gain support and encouragement from others. Group is one of the most effective ways to explore and support changes you wish to make in your life.
It is a process between a counsellor and a couple for either relationship difficulties, enhancement of the relationship or a premarital counselling. It is a very different counselling relationship as compared to individual counselling, as the counsellor's focus is on the relationship between the two, and maintains neutrality to both parties in the relationship. The counsellor works with the clients to help the clients cope with challenges that the relationship is going through, while maintaining the possibility of a positive experience whatever the outcome may be.
It is a process between the counsellor and the entire family, aiming at sorting out issues and challenges that arise between family members in trying to live together in harmony.
